Day 1 Niah National Park / Trader’s Cave / Great Cave 08:00 Hrs: Your exciting day tour begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel lobby or Miri Airport. The drive to Niah National Park takes about 1½ hours by car. Upon arrival, you will be brought to the park office for registration. Drop by the Interpretation Centre on your way to the Pangkalan Lobang Jetty for your boat ride and safety briefing. Pay a quick visit to Niah Archaeology to learn more about the park’s history before embarking on your 3KM trek to the caves. First stop: Trader’s Cave. This smaller cave was a site for trading between Chinese merchants and local people from ancient times up until the 1960s. Hear about the history of the trade station and local beliefs of the region. Second stop: Great Cave. Located just a few minutes away from Trader’s Cave, the entrance of the Great Cave is one of the largest in the world at over 60 metres high and 250 metres wide. If you are lucky, you may come across some local Penan people collecting birds' nests from the walls and ceilings of the cave. Once you’re done with your cave exploration, make your way back to the Park HQ where you will be transferred for a late lunch. 16:00 Hrs: Drop-off at hotel or airport.
