2016 is the year to revive your sense of adventure, a little differently. Borneo is synonymous with ‘Adventure’, and when paired with the very best of highland scenery…. The journey is not across, but rather, UP! From the symbol and pride of Sabah towering above all at 4,095m to eye-soothing views from the peak of a mountainous island formed by the remnants of an ancient volcano —Adventure-seekers, you best gear up for mad-beauty at great heights :

While you’re busy making your way to the top, don’t forget to momentarily stop to appreciate the view around you. For me, the view of Mount Kinabalu at dawn beats any postcard out there -- it’s just simply mesmerizing! Keep your eyes peeled for shooting stars, and have a list of wishes ready for when you do spot them!

It is said that you will never be quite the true Sabahan until you have climbed Mount Kinabalu, preferably more than once. Fairly enough, travelers from all over the world have flocked to Sabah for years and made month-long reservations to experience what it’s like standing on the summit of Mount Kinabalu. Therefore, when offered the opportunity to climb Mount Kinabalu (for the third time in my lifetime), I just couldn’t say no.

The Borneo International Marathon (BIM) has been one of Sabah Tourism’s annual premier events ever since its inception in 2008. Initially, BIM was organized by Championship Sport Events Sdn. Bhd., spearheaded by Mr. Andrew Voon as the Race Director as well as the person instrumental in organizing the Borneo International Marathon.The first BIM had three categories : 10km, 21km and 42km and was participated by a mere 529 runners.

The Nepenthes-- translates as “soothing grief” from Old Greek, commonly known to humans of planet earth as the Tropical Pitcher Plant, but acknowledged by Monkeys as a Cup to drink rainwater from.

 The Orangutan Rehabilitation and Conservation Programme, which is a support programme of the Sabah Wildlife Department’s Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, is now at its final stage of completion.

So, you have made plans to climb Mount Kinabalu. You’ve booked your climb, trained for it and shopped for your trekking gear. Now, it’s time to get your food supply!
