Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Kota Kinabalu / Tambunan Town / Kaingaran Tambunan / Camp Site

08:00 Hrs: Depart from Kota Kinabalu and enjoy a scenic ride to Tambunan Town.

09:30 Hrs: Arrive in Tambunan town for registration and a safety briefing with your mountain guide.

10:00 Hrs: Free time for shopping and lunch on your own.

11:30 Hrs: Depart from Tambunan by 4WD to the Trusmadi Forestry Gate.

12:30 Hrs: Arrive at the Forestry Gate for permit checks and registration with the forestry staff.

13:00 Hrs: Continue the journey by 4WD to the starting point of the trail.

13:40 Hrs: Begin a 2km trek through the beautiful forest to Walai Tingkoyodon Rest House.

16:00 Hrs: Arrive at the rest house. Unpack, settle in, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

18:00 Hrs: Dinner is served at the rest house.

Overnight: Stay at Walai Tingkoyodon Rest House and get a good rest before your early morning summit hike.

Day 2 - Rest House / Summit Climb / Rest House / Departure to Kota Kinabalu

01:30 Hrs: Enjoy an early breakfast at the rest house to fuel up for your summit hike.

02:00 Hrs: Begin your 2.9km ascent to the summit of Mount Trus Madi under the stars.

05:30 Hrs: Reach the summit and take in the breathtaking sunrise above the clouds.

08:00 Hrs: Begin your descent back to Walai Tingkoyodon Rest House.

11:00 Hrs: Enjoy a well-earned lunch and short rest at the rest house.

12:00 Hrs: Resume your trek down to the starting point.

13:30 Hrs: Arrive at the starting point and depart for Tambunan Town by 4WD.

15:00 Hrs: Arrive at Tambunan Town.

15:30 Hrs: Depart Tambunan and travel back to Kota Kinabalu.

19:00 Hrs: Estimated arrival in Kota Kinabalu. End of tour.

  1. Warm clothing (Temperature can be freezing at times)
  2. A torch light (To light your way during the pre-dawn climb and to signal for help when needed)/ A head Torch
  3. A rain coat (To protect you from rain and wind, and it will slow down the loss of body heat)
  4. A whistle (Only to be used when is needed.)
  5. Some energy food and water, e.g. extra chocolate, glucose, tablets, biscuits (For emergency-use when you are waiting for help to arrive)
  6. Leech socks
  7. Good trekking shoes
  8. Waterproof bag to store your belongings
  9. Jacket/ Windbreaker
  10. Personal Toiletries
  11. Gloves (For protection from cold and while holding on to ropes)
  • Climbers are required to book date at least one month before climbing. 
  • You are not allowed to open or create any new trails and required to follow exisiting trail only.
  • There is a limit of 5 climbers to one guide during each trip.
  • Cutting of tree or plants whether dead or alive is strictly prohibited. 
  • Things to bring including rain coat, sweater, torch light, appropriate shoes for hiking and socks.
  • Please bring your own extra clothes and bath items (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc…)

You also need to know:

  • This trail is physically challenging.  Please ensure you are relatively fit to climb this mountain.
  • It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommend that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart disease, severe anemia, Peptic ulcers, Epileptic fits, Obesity (overweight), Chronic asthma, Muscular cramps, Hepatitis (jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climber.
  • International guests are required to provide copy of travel insurance (personal / group).
  • This package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transport vehicle.  Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee.  Please inform us when making the bookings. 
  • Departure time is approximate and varies from different hotels due to traffic conditions, please reconfirm with our staffs. Should the transport be delayed, please call the relevant telephone number as stated on the voucher before making alternative arrangements.

DAY 1 - The Resthouse is a non-heated dormitory consisting of 20 beds.   No amenities or sleeping bags or towels are provided.
