Day 1 - Arrival in Kuching / Bako National Park / The Cove 55

For nature lovers, an exciting adventure awaits as you set out to explore Sarawak’s oldest national park, a haven of diverse ecosystems and fascinating wildlife encounters.

Your journey to Bako National Park begins with a scenic 45-minute drive to Bako Fishing Village, the gateway to the park. Upon arrival, hop onto a 30-minute boat cruise along the rugged coastline, where the refreshing sea breeze and stunning natural landscapes set the tone for an unforgettable experience. A word of caution – keep your arms inside the boat at all times, as some of the coastal vegetation is covered in sharp thorns.

Upon reaching Bako National Park, register at the Park’s Information Centre, where you will receive insights into the park’s remarkable biodiversity. Then, venture into the mangrove forests, where you can observe mudskippers darting across the shallows and bright blue fiddler crabs flashing their oversized claws as they scuttle along the mudflats.

Continue your wildlife spotting adventure along the park’s trails, keeping a lookout for Proboscis Monkeys, Bearded Pigs, Silver Leaf Monkeys, and other unique Bornean primates in their natural habitat.

After an exhilarating day of exploring the untamed wilderness of Bako, transfer to Cove 55 for an exclusive overnight retreat.

Nestled at the base of Mount Santubong, where lush tropical greenery meets the shimmering South China Sea, Cove 55 offers an elegant escape infused with subtle tribal influences. Originally built as a private holiday home for an Iban family, this sprawling villa has been transformed into a luxurious boutique retreat, featuring 13 rooms, 2 suites, and 13 private villas. Each space is thoughtfully designed to offer a bespoke experience, allowing guests to unwind in seclusion and comfort.

Despite being surrounded by untouched natural beauty, Cove 55 is conveniently accessible. International travellers can fly into Kuching Airport via major carriers such as AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Airlines. From the airport, it’s a smooth and scenic 30-minute drive to the coastal town of Santubong, where this luxurious hideaway awaits.
