Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Sandakan / Yacht Club Jetty / Abai Kinabatangan Wetland Resort / Kinabatangan River Cruise / Night Walk

Meet at Sandakan Airport or your hotel lobby for a transfer to the jetty.

Depart by boat from the Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty to the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort in Abai, Kinabatangan. The 1.5-hour boat ride takes you across Sandakan Bay, passing the historic Berhala Island and picturesque fishing villages.

Upon arrival at KWR, check-in and enjoy a cup of coffee along with local banana fritters while receiving a briefing about the lodge and upcoming activities. Enjoy your free time at leisure.

Later, board a smaller boat for a cruise along the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife. Take in the breathtaking river landscapes as the sun sets. Weather permitting, continue to observe the magical fireflies shimmering in the evening light before returning to the resort.

Dinner will be served in the common hall.

After dinner, gear up with a headlamp or torchlight for a guided stroll along the boardwalk. Keep an eye out for fascinating insects or other nocturnal wildlife that might emerge after dark.

Day 2 - Morning Cruise / Check Out / Boat Return to Sandakan / Sandakan Hotel or Airport

Start the day with an early morning cruise to observe the diverse wildlife and birdlife in the area. Return to the resort to enjoy a hearty breakfast.

After breakfast, check out and embark on a boat transfer back to Sandakan.

Upon arrival at the Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty, transfer to your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
