Recently, Tourism Malaysia released a statement to assure everyone that Malaysia is still safe to travel. Tourism Malaysia said that the country is ranked third after Thailand and South Korea in Asia for the Most Prepared Country for a Pandemic and Malaysia is working hard to ensure the safety of Malaysians and tourists that visit the country.

Besides that, Tourism Malaysia also urges tourism industry players in the country to conduct business as usual while maintaining vigilance in dealing with the outbreak.

Dear Friends,

We are sorry to hear the news on the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) originating in the People’s Republic of China, that has now spread to other countries, which prompted the World Health Organisation (WHO) to declare the outbreak a global health emergency on 30 January 2020.

We at Tourism Malaysia would like to express our deepest sympathies especially to those affected and would like to extend our assistance in any enquiries especially pertaining travel or updates on the situation in Malaysia. We also have offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou available to provide assistance and entertain enquiries in China.

As of 3 February 2020, the Government of Malaysia reported a number of 8 cases of the 2019-nCoV that had been detected in Malaysia, all of them involving citizens of the People’s Republic of China. Malaysian authorities, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia have taken measures as advised by the WHO, continue to be vigilant in monitoring the outbreak in Malaysia. A temporary suspension on the entry of visitors from the affected areas of Wuhan city and Hubei Province, is also in place as part of the Government’s effort to curb the spread of the virus.

The Government of Malaysia is currently in the midst of preparing to repatriate a total of 141 people, comprising 117 Malaysians and 24 non-citizens (spouses and children) from Wuhan, as well as preparing to donate 18 million pieces of medical gloves to healthcare workers in Wuhan to the affected areas in Hubei Province, as a sign of solidarity and goodwill between the two countries.

Malaysia is ranked in third place in Asia for the Most Prepared Country for a pandemic, after Thailand and South Korea in the Global Health Security Index 2019. Malaysia strives to continue strengthening our commitment in ensuring the safety of our people and tourists visiting our country and we would like to give assurance that Malaysia is safe to travel.

Tourism Malaysia would like to urge all parties in the travel and trade industry to practice business as usual, while remaining vigilant in retaining the heightened security measures as advised by authorities.
