Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Lahad Datu/ Tabin Wildlife Reserve/ Lipad Mud Volcano Trekking

Begin your journey with a pick-up from Lahad Datu and a scenic road transfer to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. 

Check into the charming timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort. Each room comes equipped with a private balcony, ceiling fan, and heated shower – a luxurious retreat amidst the rainforest. 

Explore the resort's surroundings, home to diverse wildlife and lush vegetation, and learn about local jungle herbs used for traditional remedies. 

In the afternoon, venture to the Lipad Mud Volcano – a natural mineral salt lick frequented by wildlife – and climb the observation tower for birdwatching and panoramic views. 

After dinner, indulge in a slide presentation on Tabin's natural wonders before embarking on a nocturnal wildlife and bird-spotting excursion under the clear night sky.

Day 2 - Bird Watching / Guided Trek / Lipad Waterfall

Join an early morning bird walk to discover Tabin's impressive bird species. 

After breakfast, trek through the verdant rainforest to reach Lipad Waterfall, where you can cool off in the natural pool and enjoy a refreshing shower. 

Spend the afternoon relaxing or pamper yourself with a Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak made from natural herbs to soothe tired muscles.

Day 3 - Danum Valley Field Centre / Night Drive

After breakfast, bid farewell to Tabin as you check out and transfer to Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). 

Upon arrival, register at DVFC Reception and consult with your guide on your activities at DVFC. Your itinerary can be tailored according to your interests. 

Enjoy lunch at the dining hall and relax or take a nap before embarking on a mid-afternoon walk around the centre, where you may spot orangutans, hornbills, and other wildlife. 

Return for dinner and embark on a 4x4 night drive to observe nocturnal creatures (if weather permits).

Day 4 - Nature & Wildlife Observation / Night Jungle Walk

Start the day with a morning nature observation experience followed by breakfast. 

Choose to embark on a trail hike or unwind before lunch. 

In the afternoon, venture on another trek, tailored to your fitness level by your nature guide. 

Return to the centre for dinner before embarking on a night walk to spot nocturnal wildlife (if weather permits).

Day 5 - Hike to Bukit Atur / Borneo Rainforest Lodge / Nature Trails / Canopy Walk / Night Safari Drive

Rise early for a sunrise 4x4 drive to Bukit Atur or opt for a morning walk with your guide. 

Enjoy breakfast before checking out and departing for Borneo Rainforest Lodge. 

Arrive and check-in at the lodge, followed by lunch and a slide presentation. 

Explore the forest through nature trails and the canopy walkway before dinner. 

Conclude the day with a thrilling night drive to spot nocturnal animals (if weather permits).

Day 6 - Jungle Trek / Kadazandusun Burial Site – Coffin Cliff / Jacuzzi Pool / Tubing in Danum River / Night Walk

Enjoy lunch at the lodge before embarking on an afternoon jungle trek or tubing adventure down the Danum River. 

End the day with a dinner at the lodge and a night walk to spot nocturnal wildlife (if weather permits).

Before departing from Lahad Datu, you may ask your driver to bring you to a local shop to buy "adidas kampung" (rubber trekking shoes) – the recommended shoes for trekking through Borneo tropical rainforest. 

  • Please ensure you are holding an air ticket to Lahad Datu. 
  • Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels and resorts are 14:00 Hrs and 12:00 Hrs. However, check-in and check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in and check-out times for your accommodation. 
  • Effective 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will implement a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTx). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of the star level of the accommodation. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and are required to present valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

  • Please note that the itinerary provided for DVFC serves as a sample, and you are encouraged to customise the activities after consulting with your nature guide upon arrival. 
  • Cell phone coverage at DVFC is available but limited depending on weather conditions and satellite function. Be prepared to have no coverage for some of your stay. 
  • DVFC electricity is powered by generators. The generators will shut down from 23:00 Hrs - 07:00 Hrs. Battery-powered lamps are provided in each room, but you can bring your own torchlight. 
  • A permit is required for any photos and videos taken for commercial use. This must be arranged prior to your trip. 
  • Danum Valley Field Centre is a no-fly zone. If you wish to fly a drone, you must apply for a permit at least 2 months prior to your trip. 
  • The power outlets at DVFC are all UK 3-pin sockets. For electronics and appliances that do not have UK 3-pin plugs, you can bring your own power adapters.

  • This package is based on a join-in basis of a shared guide and transport vehicle. A Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.
