Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Lahad Datu / Danum Valley Field Centre

Departing from Lahad Datu hotels or airport at 0830hrs, embark on a captivating 2 ½-hour overland journey to the Danum Valley Conservation Area. Witness the breathtaking transformation of landscapes, from regenerating forests to the ancient, 130-million-year-old virgin rainforests of Borneo. 

Upon arrival, experience a seamless check-in process at the DVCA Reception & Information Building following a comprehensive briefing by DVFC staff. Delight in a sumptuous lunch provided at the Dining Hall. 

Engage with your knowledgeable nature guide to tailor your immersive days at DVFC. Unwind or recharge with a rejuvenating power nap before an enlightening mid-afternoon walk around the centre, acquainting yourself with the diverse tropical rainforest. The vicinity thrives with abundant wildlife, including resident orangutans, red leaf monkeys, sambar deer, wild boars, magnificent hornbills, and other fascinating species. 

By 1900hrs, return to the centre before sundown and savour a delightful dinner. 

Afterwards, explore the forest on a guided night walk, unveiling the mysteries of nocturnal wildlife in an unforgettable experience. 

Return to your room for a good night's sleep.

Day 2 - Nature & Wildlife Observation / Night Jungle Walk

Rise early at 0600hrs for an immersive morning nature and wildlife observation session guided by our expert. Delve into the untouched allure of the rainforest, experiencing its pristine ambience that has remained unchanged for millions of years. 

Rejuvenate at the centre with a fulfilling breakfast, setting the tone for the day's adventures. Opt to explore the trails in the area, should you desire. 

Indulge in a relaxing late morning before relishing a scrumptious lunch. Following this, venture on another trek—choose from various trails near the centre or opt for a more extensive hike, contingent upon your fitness level as determined by our knowledgeable nature guide. 

Return to the centre as the day transitions into late evening and witness the captivating colours painting the sky as daylight fades. After a satisfying dinner, embark on an exhilarating night walk or night drive (optional at an additional cost) guided by our expert naturalist, weather permitting, to uncover the secrets of nocturnal wildlife. 

Enjoy your overnight stay at DVFC, nestled in the heart of Danum Valley.

Day 3 - Hike To Bukit Atur (OPTIONAL) / Danum Valley / Semporna

Wake up at the crack of dawn, around 0430hrs, for an exhilarating 4x4 drive to Bukit Atur (optional), where you can witness the valley's breathtaking sunrise for a fee. Alternatively, greet the morning at 0600hrs with another captivating walk guided by our nature expert. 

After embracing the morning's adventure, return to the centre for a delightful breakfast, setting the stage for your day. Take a moment to relax or seize the opportunity to explore the trails surrounding the centre. 

As check-out time approaches at 1030hrs, gather your belongings and bid farewell to the Danum Valley Field Centre. Your journey continues as you depart for Semporna. 

Upon arrival, relish the freedom to explore and unwind at your leisure in Semporna.

Day 4 - Semporna / Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort

Good morning! Enjoy your breakfast at before checking out. Our team will greet you upon your arrival at the hotel lobby for pick up transfer to the Semporna private jetty.

From there, embark on a boat journey to reach the stunning destination of Kapalai!  

Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort is a world-renowned diving destination, offering access to some of the most diverse marine life on the planet. Don't miss the chance to capture Instagrammable moments against a Maldives-like backdrop.  

You can explore the underwater world through snorkelling and glass boat kayaking, allowing you to spot colourful fish, coral formations, and other marine creatures up close.

Enjoy your dinner at the resort restaurant and spend the evening to your leisure before heading in to your room for a goon night's rest.

Day 5 - Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort

Enjoy a day of adventure and discovery at Sipadan Kapalai, where an array of exciting activities await. Dive into the crystal-clear waters for swimming and snorkelling, and explore the ocean's wonders with thrilling ocean kayaking experiences. 

From breakfast to dinner, you'll be treated to a tantalising array of local and international cuisine served buffet-style.

Day 6 - Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort / Semporna / Tawau Airport

After enjoying breakfast, check out from the Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort and take a boat ride to transfer you back to Semporna.  

Transfer to Tawau Airport for your flight, or consider extending your trip in Sabah!

  • Cell phone coverage is available. However, it can sometimes be disrupted due to rain downpour and satellite malfunction. 
  • DVFC electricity is powered by generators. The generators will cease at 23:00 – 07:00 hours. You may need to prepare a torchlight. 
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTX is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTX and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption. 
  • Recommended flights from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu: Malaysia Airlines MH3012 (ETD: 0705hrs / ETA: 0800hrs).   
  • The flight timings mentioned above are suggestions and subject to change. Please always verify these timings with the airline schedules to ensure they align with your specific needs. 
  • The first boat transfer to Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort is 10:30hrs. 
  • Please note chalets are a mixture of air-conditioned and fan only rooms and are assigned run-of-house basis (first come, first served) by the resort. 
  • This package is based on a join-in basis of shared guide and transport vehicle. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings. 
  • Activities are subject to weather conditions and may be re-organised to best meet operational situations.

Pregnant women are also not recommended as the boat ride may be bumpy depending on the sea condition.   • Amazing Borneo and Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort will not be held liable for any delay, additional expenses or inconvenience which may be caused directly or indirectly by events outside of the company's control, such as late arrival of domestic or international flights, civil disturbances, fire, floods, unusually severe weather, act of God, act of Government, or the failure of any machinery or equipment and property whilst staying at the resort, of during participation of any activity. 
  • In the unlikely event that the dive trip is cancelled due to bad weather, rough and dangerous sea conditions, a natural disaster, an act of God, war, political unrest, or a danger to passengers or the boat, then the resort has the right to cancel or delay the departure. The resort withholds the right to change the planned itinerary, leave for the jetty early or change the schedule. 
  • Tipping is like giving a hug. Although it’s never expected, it’s always very much appreciated.
