Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival / Deer & Lang Caves / Bat Exodus

Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, you'll be transported to your accommodation for check-in. After having lunch, assemble at 1400hrs for a safety briefing conducted by our local guide.

Embark on a 3-kilometer stroll along nearly level raised plank pathways, taking 40 minutes to an hour to reach the Bat Observatory. Continue the journey with an additional 500 meters of walking to explore one of the planet's largest cave passages, hosting over 3 million Wrinkle Lipped bats.

Deer Cave, another captivating destination, harbours a significant population of swiftlets. The lofty cave ceilings, surpassing 100 meters in some areas, provide a secure sanctuary for these birds against predators.

Admire the immense scale of this limestone passage, an ancient riverbed showcasing the erosive force of water on scalloped walls.

Upon reaching the verdant oasis of the Garden of Eden, having covered 800 meters inside Deer Cave, savour the sight of Adam and Eve's showers – a distinctive showerhead formation with water columns spurting 30 meters to the riverbed below.

Returning along a similar path, albeit with different perspectives, explore Lang's Cave, adorned with splendid limestone shawls, stalagmites, and stalactites. This smaller cave offers a closer look at bats and the glistening webs of threadworm larvae, a charming feature of Mulu Caves.

The tour is strategically scheduled to coincide with the bat exodus, expected to commence anytime after 1700hr.

Following the enthralling bat exodus, return to your accommodation. Dinner will be served before you retire for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2 - Check out / Penan Settlement Handicraft Market / Wind & Clearwater Caves / Kuala Litut / Camp 5

Embark on an exciting adventure after having breakfast and checking out. Your journey begins with a longboat ride to Batu Bungan – Penan Settlement, followed by the awe-inspiring Clearwater Cave and the enchanting Cave of the Winds.

Prepare for an exhilarating climb up some high stairs as you approach the massive entrance of Clearwater Cave. Before delving in, our knowledgeable local guide will walk you through the cave procedure. Take a dip in the cool stream inside, revelling in the shimmering beauty of stalactites and stalagmites adorning the cave's interior.

Continue the exploration by marvelling at the breathtaking cave formations in the cool breeze of Cave of the Winds. Lunchtime brings a delightful picnic near the entrance of Clearwater Cave, offering a perfect break in the midst of nature's wonders.

Cap off your day with a thrilling return on a motorized longboat, navigating the Melinau River up to Kuala Litut.

The adventure continues with a 9-kilometer trek from Kuala Litut to Camp 5, traversing relatively level forest terrain over two to three hours.

As night falls, unwind at Camp 5 and relish a hearty meal. Get ready for a restful night, recharging for the next chapter of your exhilarating journey!

Meals : Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Accommodation : Base Camp 5

Day 3 - Camp 5 / Gunung Api / Mulu Pinnacles / Camp 5

Indulge in a hearty breakfast before hiking to the Mulu Pinnacle Summit around 0600 hrs.

The journey from Camp 5 to the Mulu Pinnacles lookout covers approximately 2.4 kilometres but involves a substantial elevation gain of around 1,200 meters.

As you progress, the path takes a steep ascent into a moss forest, transitioning from a lowland dipterocarp forest where only a few trees remain, adorned with moss covering nearly everything else. Be cautious as sharp limestone pieces scatter the trail.

The final stretch of the trail poses a significant challenge, prompting the strategic placement of 17 aluminium ladders and a rope section.

The ascent is expected to take approximately four to five hours, demanding both stamina and careful navigation due to the rugged terrain.

You will be rewarded with the breathtaking sight of the destination: The Pinnacles, a collection of 45-meter-tall, razor-sharp limestone spikes that majestically grace the slopes of Gunung Api!

Meals : Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Accommodation : Base Camp 5

Day 4 - Kuala Litut / Park HQ / Check In / Free & Easy

Bid farewell to Camp 5 after a hearty breakfast.

The journey back to your starting point involves a scenic and invigorating hike covering 9 kilometers. As you traverse this forested trail, be prepared for a captivating trek through diverse landscapes, witnessing the beauty of the Borneo rainforest.

Upon reaching Kuala Litut, the adventure takes an aquatic turn as you board a longboat for a leisurely ride down the enchanting Melinau River. This journey not only provides a relaxing and picturesque experience but also allows you to soak in the surrounding natural splendor.

The longboat ride brings you back to the National Park. Take a moment to rest and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Meals : Breakfast / Dinner Accommodation : Park HQ / Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa

Day 5 - Canopy Treetop Walk / Mulu Airport / Departure or Extend Tour

Good morning! After breakfast, head over to the Park HQ for the complimentary canopy walk activity.

Guests are required to register for the canopy walk exploration at the Mulu Park HQ on their own. Therefore, guests should arrive at the Park HQ 15 minutes before the registration time. Available canopy walk time slots are at 0700 hrs, 0830 hrs, 1000 hrs, 1030 hrs, and 1230 hrs.

Following registration, a park guide will provide a brief introduction before embarking on the 45-minute guided hiking journey through the Mulu rainforest.

Following the hike, enjoy a 20-minute canopy walk, and complete the experience with another 45-minute return journey to the National Park HQ.

The entire expedition, encompassing both the hiking and canopy walk experiences, spans a distance of 6 kilometres in total.

Arrive at the entrance of the Canopy Walk and step onto the 420-meter suspended walkway, positioned 25 meters above the forest floor.

The walkway is intricately linked to the trees, featuring stations strategically positioned at various trees. This design encourages visitors to pause and observe the canopy from diverse vantage points.

Stroll amidst the vibrant treetops, enjoying serene river views below, and take the opportunity to compare the rich vegetation of the riverine forest floor with that of the understory, treetops, and nearby limestone cliffs.

As you stroll along, you can encounter local wildlife, including macaques and flying lizards, adding an exciting dimension to your walk.

After the canopy walk, check out from the accommodation two hours before your flight.

Complete your Mulu adventure with a seamless transfer to Mulu Airport for your onward flight to Miri, Kuching, or Kota Kinabalu.
