Arrival / Deer & Lang Caves / Bat Exodus
Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, you'll be transported to your accommodation for check-in. After having lunch, assemble at 1400hrs for a safety briefing conducted by our local guide.
Embark on a 3-kilometer stroll along nearly level raised plank pathways, taking 40 minutes to an hour to reach the Bat Observatory. Continue the journey with an additional 500 meters of walking to explore one of the planet's largest cave passages, hosting over 3 million Wrinkle Lipped bats.
Deer Cave, another captivating destination, harbours a significant population of swiftlets. The lofty cave ceilings, surpassing 100 meters in some areas, provide a secure sanctuary for these birds against predators.
Admire the immense scale of this limestone passage, an ancient riverbed showcasing the erosive force of water on scalloped walls.
Upon reaching the verdant oasis of the Garden of Eden, having covered 800 meters inside Deer Cave, savour the sight of Adam and Eve's showers – a distinctive showerhead formation with water columns spurting 30 meters to the riverbed below.
Returning along a similar path, albeit with different perspectives, explore Lang's Cave, adorned with splendid limestone shawls, stalagmites, and stalactites. This smaller cave offers a closer look at bats and the glistening webs of threadworm larvae, a charming feature of Mulu Caves.
The tour is strategically scheduled to coincide with the bat exodus, expected to commence anytime after 1700hr.
Following the enthralling bat exodus, return to your accommodation. Dinner will be served before you retire for a restful overnight stay.
