Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Lahad Datu / Tabin Wildlife Reserve / Lipad Mud Volcano / Night Safari

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel lobby or the Lahad Datu Airport to transfer to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. 

Check into Tabin Wildlife Resort with amenities including a private balcony, air conditioner, ceiling fan, and hot water shower. 

Visit Trogon Hall gallery for a briefing on Tabin Wildlife Reserve's conservation, birds, insects, and animals in the area (for guests checking in before 11:00 Hrs). 

Afternoon guided visit to the Lipad Mud Volcano, stopping at the compost bin to learn about recycling food waste into fertiliser. 

Proceed to the Lipad Mud Volcano, a mineral salt lick for wildlife. Spot animal footprints and give yourself a volcanic mud mask – natural skincare for a fine complexion! 

After dinner, enjoy a presentation on the natural wonders of Tabin. 

Before retreating to bed, end your night with a night safari to spot nocturnal wildlife and tropical birds as a blanket of stars twinkle above you.

Day 2 - Bird Watching / Guided Trek / Lipad Waterfall / Tabin Foot Soak / Dusk Safari / Night Walk

Early morning bird walk to explore the nearly 300 species that reside within Tabin. 

Following breakfast, drive through the reserve, stopping at the bird-watching tower and Orang Utan Release Centre. 

Trek through the rainforest to Lipad Waterfall for a swim and immersion in the natural surroundings. 

On your way back, stop by the iconic Tabin Giant Tree for a quick photo session. 

Unwind in the afternoon with a signature Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak, comprising a wonderful blend of natural herbs to soothe and stimulate the feet. 

Enjoy an evening drive at dusk to spot wildlife and birds as the sunset glows around you. 

After dinner, embark on a guided night walk in search of sleeping birds, frogs, and other nocturnal wildlife.

Day 3 - Guided Walk / Night Safari

The morning and afternoon are spent on guided treks through the rainforest. 

Following dinner, venture out on your final night safari for wildlife spotting and bird watching.

Day 4 - Bird Watching / Free & Easy / Lahad Datu

Rise early for a morning bird walk with your guide. 

The rest of the day until checkout is yours to enjoy at your leisure. 

Following checkout, transfer back to Lahad Datu – the end to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

Before departing from Lahad Datu, you may ask your driver to bring you to a local shop to buy "adidas kampung" (rubber trekking shoes) – the recommended shoes for trekking through Borneo tropical rainforest.  Leech socks may be purchased at the resort shop. 

  • Please ensure you are holding an air ticket to Lahad Datu. 
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTx). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present valid identification upon check-in for the exemption
